Searchlight Pictures has announced a March 10th digital release for “The Testament of Ann Lee,” the wild, divisive, and much-talked-about historical drama musical starring Amanda Seyfried.
However, they’ve also added a very specific fact within that announcement that has gotten social media abuzz – the film will be an exclusively digital release with seemingly zero plans for a 4K UHD Blu-ray, regular Blu-ray or even DVD according to HighDefDiscNews.
Special features on the digital release include a making of documentary featurette going into the film’s production.
Norwegian filmmaker and actress Mona Fastvold (“The World to Come”) directs the film and co-wrote it with her partner and fellow filmmaker Brady Corbet with some of his crew from films like “Vox Lux” and “The Brutalist” also enlisted.
Based on a true legend, it depicts the story of the founder of the devotional sect known as the Shakers. Seyfried stars as the Shaker’s revered, irrepressible leader who preaches gender and social equality. With reimagined Shaker hymns, the film aims to capture Lee’s ecstasy and agony in her quest to build a utopia.
Widely praised by critics, Seyfried is up for a Golden Globe nomination for her performance. Thomasin Mckenzie, Lewis Pullman, Stacy Martin, with Tim Blake Nelson, and Christopher Abbott also star in the feature.
