Capcom releases its highly anticipated video game “Resident Evil Requiem” this week and so far the title has been drawing rave reviews, easily making it the best game of the year so far.

On Metacritic, this ninth main title has hit an 88/100 – above the 86 of the seventh and 84 of the eighth (“Resident Evil: Village”), but behind the 91 & 93 of the remakes of the second and fourth games respectively.

A lot of that praise has gone towards how well optimised the game is at launch, Capcom delivering a game that reportedly scales incredibly well, so much so that it plays fine on hardware like the Nintendo Switch 2.

It’s also drawing much praise for its PS5 Pro performance, where the title is reportedly one of the first third-party titles to show major performance improvements over the base PS5.

The PS5 Pro has two modes available – one at 60fps with raytracing that’s being seen as the best way to play, or a 120Hz performance mode without raytracing (and blurrier graphics).
