Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first footage, a Spanish teaser trailer, from filmmaker Pedro Almodovar’s latest effort “Bitter Christmas” (aka. “Amarga Navidad”)
The Spanish-language drama follows workaholic advertising director Elsa who, after her mother dies, immerses herself in work to cope.
When a panic attack forces her to take a break, she decides to travel to Lanzarote with her friend Patricia while her partner Bonifacio stays in Madrid
On the island, their experiences mirror the story of a screenwriter and a film director, blurring the lines between life and art. Bárbara Lennie, Leonardo Sbaraglia, Victoria Luengo and Patrick Criado co-star.
The project marks the celebrated filmmaker’s 24th overall feature which aims to join many of his classics like “Talk to Her,” “All About My Mother,” “Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down,” “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown,” “Pain and Glory,” “Volver,” “The Skin I Live In,” “Bad Education” and “Parallel Mothers”
The trailer shows the usual hallmarks of his style – bright primary colours, an emphasis on clothing and interior design, interesting shot composition and more.
Shot in the Spring, the title opens in Spain on March 20th 2026 with Sony Pictures Classics handling the U.S. release sometime next year.
