Kate Winslet is a household name, from Titanic to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, she is a very recognisable name. Usually, she’s in front of the camera, but she has now turned her hand to directing.
Goodbye June stars Kate Winslet, Helen Mirren, Timothy Spall, Johnny Flynn, James Trevelyan Buckle, Andrea Riseborough, Stephen Merchant, Dan Li, Jermey Swift, Fisayo Akinade, and Toni Collette.
Goodbye June is directed by Winslet and written by her son, Joe Anders. The story is:
Follows a group of fractured siblings who must come together under sudden and trying circumstances.
I hadn’t heard of the movie, but Winslet was just on BBC Breakfast talking about it. At first, I was intrigued, but then it took a turn.
Firstly, this is a ‘Christmas’ movie; all the siblings are gathered around mum, June, as she dies at Christmas. It’s not exactly The Santa Clause. I mean, I don’t want to spoil anything, but there’s only one way the movie will end. I’m guessing June doesn’t make it.
It’s not exactly one for all the family at Christmas. It sounds like the kind of movie your other half will want to watch, because Winslet is in it, it’ll make her cry, and you’ll never speak of it again.
Also, Winslet got talking about ‘nepo-babies’, and how her son wasn’t like that. Really Kate? He didn’t get a leg up because of his mum, Kate ‘been nominated for several Oscars’ Winslet?
I digress. Goodbye June does sound like an interesting movie, but I’m not sure who it’s aimed at.
Winslet’s directorial debut, Goodbye June, will be streaming on Netflix on the 24th of Dec.
