Before I became a parent and life got very busy, I spent many happy hours playing Call Of Duty, getting annihilated by some Chinese teenagers making cat noises, or being sworn at by kids with an impressive mastery of the vulgar at their age. To be fair, I always enjoyed the campaigns over multiplayer, and I think that Modern Warfare was the best subset in the franchise by quite a long way.

So I had some fear as to what modern Hollywood would do with a Call Of Duty movie. Well, they are seemingly making some good decisions so far, as Yellowstone and Landman creator Taylor Sheridan and director Peter Berg (Lone Survivor) are now on board and will jointly develop the project.

Paramount and Activision are behind this, and while it was rumored for a long time, the official announcement was only made last month. These are the first two names to be confirmed.

Deadline quotes the studio, saying they plan to:

“…thrill its massive global fan base by delivering on the hallmarks of what fans love about the iconic series, while boldly expanding the franchise to entirely new audiences.”

A movie is planned, but the report says that the rights also include options to expand into other media, such as TV or animation.

Berg worked with Sheridan before on Hell or High Water and Wind River as writers and producers. This time, Berg will direct, and he will also produce alongside Sheridan and David Glasser. Sheridan and Berg will co-write the script.

Call Of Duty – the movie – just got interesting.
