ABC has cancelled its “The Rookie” spin-off “The Rookie: Feds” after a single season of the Niecy Nash-Betts led series.
The news comes a day after SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP reached a tentative deal to end the months-long actor’s strike. The show had been on hold since May as ABC took a wait-and-see approach.
Whilst flagship series “The Rookie” was renewed for a sixth season back in April, the fate of the Niecy Nash-led spin-off has been up in the air for months with the cast under a contractual hold for a potential second season.
The show’s freshman run averaged 4.3 million total viewers and a 0.5 demo rating in Live+7 – making it one of ABC’s lowest performers.
Additionally, ABC has opted not to proceed with “The Good Lawyer,” a legal spinoff from “The Good Doctor” that was to star Kennedy McMann and Felicity Huffman. The series had a backdoor pilot airing as an episode last spring.
ABC now has a good idea of its schedule for what remains of the 2023-24 broadcast season. Expect more information soon.
