By Swan Song for Jimmy?
Yesterday, Page Six had reported that late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel would be concluding his show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, at the end of its 25th season, which just started. It was being said that the long-running chat show would wrap its final episode in May of 2027. Sources close to TMZ also said that there were rumblings backstage among the staff that Kimmel had been working on pitching new shows and podcasts around at different studios. These reports would also follow not long after recent comments made by Kimmel’s wife, Molly McNearney, as she talked about his eventual retirement.
McNearney appeared on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast and opened up, “It definitely appeals to me for the nervous system of the household.” McNearney, who also serves as a writer and executive producer on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, also says, “I feel like Jimmy has a fly rod in one hand and a torch in the other right now. It’s like he deserves to go out there and just be on the river and relax, but I also want him to keep fighting. And I feel this sense of desire to not quit because I think what he’s doing is incredibly important right now. And yes, I know we’re doing it in a vacuum, but I think it’s giving people a feeling of, like, their voice is heard, and I think it’s important. But as his wife, I really would like him to be able to not do the show anymore so he could relax.”
Not so fast
According to US Magazine, ABC has since responded to the news that Kimmel will be concluding his run on the talk show circuit. An ABC Entertainment spokesperson spoke to the publication yesterday and denied any validity to the previously reported news. The spokesperson stated, “This information is inaccurate. Any reports about the future of the show at this point are purely speculative.” US Magazine had also reached out to a representative of Kimmel’s for any further comment, but none has yet been returned.
