Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two” arrives in cinemas in March, but the famed filmmaker is looking towards his next project which may well be headed to the distant past.
Scooper Daniel Richtman (via World of Reel) is reporting that Villeneuve’s next film is looking to be his long in the works “Cleopatra” movie at Sony Pictures which apparently is aiming to begin production sometime next year.
“Napoleon” scribe David Scarpa penned the film based on the best-selling book “Cleopatra: A Life” by Stacey Schiff. Both Villeneuve and Scarpa have been attached to the project for years.
Scarpa previously teased back in 2017 that this wasn’t some overly long biopic with lots of pageantry, but rather a lean and mean political thriller that’s dirty, bloody, sexy and more.
The new report also suggests Villeneuve’s “Dune” stars Zendaya and Timothee Chalamet could reunite here as Cleopatra and Octavius respectively whilst former James Bond himself Daniel Craig is being sought for Julius Caesar.
The project is not linked to the other long-gestating biopic of the Egyptian ruler that has Gal Gadot attached to play her. At last report, Kari Skogland will direct that feature.
