“Elemental” and “The Good Dinosaur” director Peter Sohn is set to direct the third installment of the acclaimed and successful “The Incredibles” franchise at Pixar and Disney.

Brad Bird penned and directed the first two films in the franchise, which have generated a combined $1.8 billion at the box office. Bird will return as writer and producer on this one, while Dana Murray (“Soul”) also produces, but won’t direct as he’s busy in pre-production on Skydance’s “Ray Gunn”.

Bird has reportedly been a mentor to Sohn who has worked on all of Bird’s past animated films. Bird and Pixar chief creative officer Pete Docter hand-picked him to takve over on the third “Incredibles”.

The films follow suburban married couple Bob and Helen Parr (Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter) who live a quiet life with their three children after being forced to hide their superpowers by a new government mandate. Samuel L. Jackson co-stars as Bob’s friend Frozone.

The 2004 original won the animated film Oscar and is often touted as one of the best films Pixar ever made. The 2018 sequel generated huge business and, though not as beloved, was still seen as a solid sequel.

Disney officially announced development on the third film at the D23 Expo event in August last year.
