Momoa is now a big deal. Putting the Snyderverse behind him, his flamboyant villain is the ultimate big-bad in the Fast & Furious franchise cappers, and then he goes to sleep on a bed of money from his producer credit on the globally massive Minecraft movie. He has a turn as Lobo fast approaching in the new DCU, and he gets to write, star in, and executive produce a show for Apple TV+ – Chief Of War.

Now the full-length trailer has dropped for this historical drama set in 18th-century Hawaii. There will be nine episodes based on the real events. Warrior Ka’iana (Momoa) tries to unite the Islands in the years before Western colonization.

The cast is mostly Polynesian, and includes Luciane Buchanan, Temuera Morrison, Te Ao o Hinepehinga, Cliff Curtis, newcomer Kaina Makua, Moses Goods, Siua Ikale’o, Brandon Finn, James Udom, Mainei Kinimaka, and Te Kohe Tuhaka.

Doug Jung is the showrunner, and Justin Chon directs the first two episodes for Fifth Season and Chernin Entertainment. Executive producers include Jung, Momoa, Sibbett, Chon, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Tracey Cook, Brian Mendoza, Anders Engstrom, Jim Rowe, Molly Allen, Francis Lawrence, and Tim Van Patten.

The first two episodes of Chief Of War will be on Apple TV+ on August 1st, and then it drops weekly on a Friday.
