By “Charlie’s Angels” and “Terminator: Salvation” helmer McG is in final negotiations to direct “Shout It Out Loud,” the biopic about superstar rock band KISS for STX Entertainment.
STX is reportedly in discussions with Lionsgate to distribute the film worldwide and co-finance. They take over the project which had been previously set up at Netflix following a bidding war.
At the time back in 2021, Joachim Rønning was attached to direct but that’s no longer the case.
Bandleaders Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley will report have close co-operation with the project, and their concert-arena anthems ranging from “I Was Made For Lovin’ You” and “Rock and Roll All Nite” to “Beth” and “Detroit Rock City” will play a major part.
Darren Lemke (“Shazam!,” “Gemini Man”) penned the most recent draft of the script, re-writing the Netflix version which was penned by Ole Sanders.
The version followed two misfit kids from Queens who formed an unlikely friendship and starting KISS after enlisting guitarist Ace Frehley and drummer Peter Criss. The group set themselves apart with iconic makeup and elaborate costumes.
McG will also produce alongside Mary Viola, Mark Canton, Leigh Ann Burton, Doc McGhee, Jody Gerson, David Blackman, David Hopwood, Courtney Solomon, and Dorothy Canton, along with Simmons and Stanley.
Casting is underway and filming is aiming to start in the second quarter of 2025. McG is currently in production on the Chris Pratt-led “Way of the Warrior Kid” for Apple and Skydance.
