George Clooney and Brad Pitt are back for Ocean’s 14, according to a report in Deadline. Matt Damon and Casey Affleck are also planning to return. No word yet on Julia Roberts or the rest of the ensemble cast.

The big news is that franchise director Stephen Soderbergh won’t be returning. Instead, the All Quiet On The Western Front director Edward Berger is being approached. He is also rumored to be in the running for the next Bond movie.

The report says the movie will be produced under the Smokehouse banner and Clooney and Pitt, straight off working together on Wolfs, are happy with the strong script. The script is mentioned in the report as being in the spirit of Going In Style.

This project is distinctly separate from the previously announced Oceans prequel starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.

The first movie in this franchise was itself a remake of the 1960s rat-pack caper. The first instalment was back in 2001, and Oceans 13 was 2007. Over the course of the franchise,  Mike Myers, Bruce Willis, Ewan McGregor, Alan Arkin, and Ralph Fiennes were considered for various roles but never made it in. There is still time for the crew to expand.

The first movie was a huge hit, grossing over $450 million against an $80 million budget. A female-led spin off – Ocean’s 8 – fared less well in 2018.

Ocean’s 14 would be unlikely to be in theaters until 2026.
