Timed with the announcement of the LEGO Ideas “Jaws” set for July 4th, company has released a 90-second abridged remake of Steven Spielberg’s iconic 1975 blockbuster.
“Jaws in a Jiffy” takes us through key scenes of the blockbuster that begat all blockbusters, from the first attack through the mayor who downplays the danger, to Quint’s chalkboard scratch and the Orca’s departure from dock.
Then the Lego recreations see Brody, Quint and Hooper in the boat at sea trying to launch the shark cage, shooting the barrel attachments and the finale with the oxygen tank.
It’s all a fun spin on the film until the very end, when its opts for a tribute to Spielberg himself and ‘Bruce’ the mechanical shark that proved such a troublesome factor in production.
The set itself is a recreation of the scene right before Quint gets taken with the shark partly on the deck of the Orca. It consists of 1497 pieces and is set to be released on August 6th.
“Jaws” of course spawned three sequels, countless imitators, video games, board games, and even a stage play. It remains one of the quintessential films in all of cinema.
