One key role for the upcoming second season of HBO’s highly acclaimed game-to-film adaptation “The Last of Us” has finally been cast.
Oscar nominee Jeffrey Wright (“American Fiction,” “Westworld,” “The Batman”) is set for the role of Isaac, the leader of the large militant paramilitary group known as the Washington Liberation Front.
In the game, the WLF is based out of a stadium in Seattle. Having thrown goverment agency FEDRA out of the city’s quarantine zone, they are now engaged in a turf war for control of the city with the primitivist cult known as the Seraphites.
The hiring brings Wright full circle as the actor actually voiced the character in the original “The Last of Us Part II” game upon which both this season and a potential third will be based.
He’s also the second actor from the games to reprise the same role on screen following Merle Dandridge who reprised her role of Fireflies leader Marlene in the first season. Troy Baker, who voiced Joel, and Ashley Johnson, who voiced Ellie had different onscreen roles in the last two episodes of the first season.
Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are reprising their roles of Joel and Ellie respectively in the second season alongside Gabriel Luna, Kaitlyn Dever, Young Manzino, Isabela Merced, and Catherine O’Hara.
The second season is currently in production and is expected to wrap its shoot around August ahead of a debut which is confirmed to be taking place in the first half of 2025.
