Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” pulled in $18.67 million at the box-office yesterday, the best Monday result of the year so far.
It came in slightly ahead of the $17.3 million that “Toy Story 5” did on its first Monday, around 50% ahead of the $12.67 million that Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” had on its first Monday.
However, it’s only the fifth highest Monday for Universal – beaten by “Jurassic World” ($25.3M), “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” ($20.1M), “Sing” ($19.7M), and “Fast & Furious 6” ($19.7M).
Monday’s numbers come in the wake of the film’s $124.5 million domestic and $264 million global opening weekend.
The news also comes as The British Film Institute’s IMAX theatre, the U.K.’s largest screen, has had its best-ever opening weekend at the box office, with the one screen pulling in £219,867 over the three day opening – beating “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” at £216,454.
With no major studio-wide entries this coming weekend, “The Odyssey” is expected to dominate again though will be hit slightly when Sony’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” hits cinemas next Friday.
