“Shameless” and “Gotham” star Cameron Monaghan has had some notable success of late.
Along with being the star of the two “Star Wars Jedi” video games so far, he’s also set for a role in the third “TRON” film “TRON: Ares” which has been filming in Canada for a few months now.
Appearing at MegaCon in Orlando, Florida this weekend, Monaghan spoke about his involvement in the film and teased that it’s going to be something special.
Speaking with Collider, he also acknowledged the previous films and spoke about his relationship to them:
“I think this movie is going to really push forward what can be done, from a visual perspective. I would sometimes even come in on days I wasn’t working, because that set was really amazing. A lot of the practical sets were pretty phenomenal, and I would love to go look at those as well.
I remember watching the original, and I thought it was from the ’90s or something, because it was pretty amazing how a movie from that era could look that amazing, and utilizing computers the way they did.
[Tron: Legacy has] a cult fandom, in a similar way that the original Tron did as well, where people thought it was very technologically cool but it’s continued to grow.
Tron Legacy, I just saw projected in 35MM at the New Beverly last year, and it really holds up, and has that amazing soundtrack by Daft Punk.
So I like that those movies have a number of years of separation between them. They don’t come out very often, and every time they do, they show a new era of technology and filmmaking.”
Monaghan also spoke about returning to the Cal Kestis role for a third ‘Jedi’ game which has been rumored to be in the works, or a potential appearance in a live-action series. He wouldn’t confirm any such thing is happening but did say he’s very happy to return to the role when called for:
“Ultimately I would like to tell more story if there’s a continuing story to tell. If there’s something new to be introduced or revealed, I would love to. I appreciate people want to see it, but I’d want to make sure there’s a real story to tell to return and if there is, I would really like to.”
Monaghan added that the double blade and the blaster were his two favorites stances from the games, and outfit wise he’s “very partial to Cal’s pink poncho.”
