By With their “3 Body Problem” series performing strongly on Netflix, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are still out there beating the show’s gong with the press.
Not unexpectedly, questions about their time as co-showrunners for HBO’s fantasy epic “Game of Thrones” have come up and, in a recent Happy Sad Confused podcast episode, they revealed their favorite on-screen deaths across the show’s eight-season run.
Weiss says the deaths of Joffrey and Ramsay Bolton in the fourth and sixth season’s respectively were the best as” “it was fun to go back to the old-fashioned joys of just killing off a really bad guy. It felt like it was balancing the scales a bit, so that was enjoyable.”
Ramsay (Iwan Rheon) was killed when his face was eaten off by a hound which Sansa (Sophie Turner) unleashed on him after the Battle of the Bastards. Benioff says the scene, which mostly focuses on Sansa’s face reacting, was done all in one shot:
“She [Turner] nailed it on the seventh or eighth time, and it was just that feeling of, ‘That’s so epic.’ Sophie was so good, when she got that shot, I felt like, ‘I can now die happy.’”
The pair also spoke about the show’s final season – the six-episode run that infamously turned the once-beloved series into one of the most vilified. Talking about the blowback they received, they admitted it was harsher than they expected. Weiss says:
“I think we knew it would be controversial; we hoped that it would be a little more 50/50 [even]. You hope for a better proportion of – we definitely didn’t want it to be quite so much hate – we were prepared for some of it, but, you know.
