The first trailer for “Star Wars: The Acolyte” arrived online a few days ago with the official StarWars.com site announcing shortly after that the clip scored 51.3 million views across all platforms in its first 24 hours.
That easily makes it the highest number for any “Star Wars” series on Disney+ so far. What wasn’t shown in that release was the number of dislikes of the clip on YouTube – hundreds of thousands and more dislikes than likes.
That isn’t stopping any anticipation, far from it. Speaking with Collider recently about the new series, showrunner Leslye Headland cleared up a couple of details. First up she confirms the average episode runtime is 30-35 minutes with the finale at 40 minutes.
The trailer included footage from “4 to 5 episodes,” and not the whole series which runs for eight episodes. Headland also says she envisioned the series as a multi-season show:
“There are a lot of things at the end of this season that I think are narrative threads that are not tied up, for sure. However, I am the type of writer that’s not interested in an emotional cliffhanger. I want you to feel like you’ve had a particular type of catharsis, and an emotional experience in watching those eight episodes because I like rewarding the audience with that… These things take forever to make, so I would hate to make a season that didn’t feel complete, even if it was still open for more story.”
Set multiple decades before ‘The Phantom Menace,’ The High Republic-era film sees an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems.
“The Acolyte” premieres on Disney+ on June 4th.
