Samuel L. Jackson is getting caught in a deadly marriage game in Just Play Dead, a new darkly comic thriller heading to theaters later this month.

Jackson stars as Jack, a criminal mastermind who believes he has discovered the perfect way to escape his problems. With a $30 million life insurance policy, he plans to fake his own death, collect the payout and frame his wife Nora’s lover, Chad, for the murder. It sounds foolproof until Nora comes up with a much more permanent solution.

Played by Eva Green, Nora decides that Jack’s fake death should become very real. She plans to kill her husband, blame Chad and take the entire fortune for herself. Unfortunately for Nora, Jack is considerably harder to eliminate than expected.

What follows is a sun-soaked battle of deception, betrayal and increasingly complicated murder schemes, with federal agents, seduction and double-crosses thrown into the mix. Jason Fernández plays Chad, the unfortunate lover caught between two people who seem determined to outsmart everyone around them.

The film looks like a twist-heavy crime comedy built around the chemistry between Jackson and Green, with both characters constantly trying to stay one step ahead of the other.

Vertical will release Just Play Dead in select U.S. cinemas on August 28, followed by digital and on-demand release on September 1.
