Two years ago came the news that Oscar nominee Paul Giamatti has closed a deal to star in a TV series based on Eli Roth’s gory horror film franchise “Hostel” at Pescock.
Eli Roth, Chris Briggs and Mike Fleiss were all returning for the project as executive producers, the work was said to be a “modern adaptation” and a “reinvention” of the material. Roth was also going to direct from a script co-written with Briggs.
Roth now tells film journalist Edward Douglas of The Weekend Warrior (via WoR) that Peacock has passed on the series and so they are now redeveloping it as a theatrical feature.
No further information was revealed, beyond it being a modern-day reinvention of the original film’s premise. Giamatti is expected to star in a key role, with character details under wraps.
It’ll mark Giamatti’s first TV gig since a recurring appearance on “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy”.
The original followed three American backpackers as they headed to a Slovak city for a wild time, with no idea of the hell that awaits them as they are eventually taken one-by-one by a group that allows people to torture and kill others.
