Disney+ has officially handed out a green light to “Afterlife with Archie,” a live-action hourlong drama series based on the best-selling Archie comic book series by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Francesco Francavilla.

In addition, the streamer has announced plans for a Halloween 2027 premiere for the show. The order arrives nine months after the project was put into development at Disney+ last October with a big script-to-series commitment.

Over 3 billion copies of Archie Comics have been sold over the past 85 years, with multiple characters having been translated to the screen in works such as The CW’s “Riverdale,” Netflix’s “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” the “Josie and the Pussycats” film, the “Katy Keene” series and more.

Aguirre-Sacasa, Greg Berlanti‘s Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television – the same group behind “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” and “Riverdale” – are set to produce the series.

“Afterlife with Archie” turns the all-American town of Riverdale into a zombie-overrun apocalypse — where the only thing scarier than the undead is trying to survive your teenage years.

When a supernatural spell from a certain teen-witch backfires, unleashing an army of the possessed dead upon Riverdale, Archie and his friends must fight to stay alive, testing the friendships, romances, and loyalties that have always held them together.
