HBO is merging two of its most noted limited series in recent years – last year’s “Task” and 2021’s “Mare of Easttown” – into one screen universe.
Both series hail from creator and showrunner Brad Ingelsby and unfold in the working-class suburbs of Philadelphia.
However, there has been no onscreen formal connection of any kind between the shows – until now.
Variety reports that Julianne Nicholson (“Paradise”) will reprise her Emmy-winning role of Lori Ross from “Mare of Easttown,” but this time portray the character as part of the second season of “Task”.
In “Mare,” the Lori character was the best friend of Detective Mare Sheehan (Kate Winslet), and her son becomes embroiled in a murder investigation.
While a second season of “Mare of Easttown” has had “early discussions,” nothing concrete has moved forward on that.
In the new season of “Task”, Tom Brandis (Mark Ruffalo) takes the helm of a new task force, but the deeper the operation runs, the harder it is to tell who’s the target.
Mahershala Ali, Harry Melling, Adam Nagaitis, Aminah Nieves and Edgar Ramirez also star in the second season of that series.
