There was a time when Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was the bright spot in the otherwise turgid sea of dreck that was this new iteration of Star Trek from Paramount.
Then it found itself collapsing under the weight of continuity, as its place in canon required the introduction of substitute teacher versions of the original characters.
Strange-new-worlds
This all came as the much lauded “stunt” episodes, such as the musical instalment, landed with fans with all the enthusiasm a Palestinian at a bar mitzvah.
Still, with Starfleet Academy being unceremoniously dumped, Paramount can’t afford any more cancellations, so Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is going again, and there is a trailer.
According to the press release that came with this trailer:
“The crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise – led by Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) – embark on a series of thrilling and emotional adventures across the stars.
As they journey to strange new worlds, they will battle inner demons and external threats, encounter colourful new characters, reunite with familiar faces and confront terrifying aliens. Through it all, they strive to embrace a bright, hopeful future.”
Jesus. This sounds like a leaflet from a Pride Parade.
Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Jess Bush, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Melissa Navia, Babs Olusanmokun and Martin Quinn co-star, alongside guest stars Carol Kane and Paul (shut up!) Wesley.
The show has already been renewed for a fifth time, and that will be the final season.
Strange New Worlds launches on July 23rd and drops weekly.
