Netflix has shot down a recent report suggesting it was interested in acquiring Lionsgate.
A report on Tuesday at Semafor indicated that the streaming giant was one of several companies interested in buying mini-major studio Lionsgate – home of the “Twilight,” “John Wick” and “Hunger Games” franchises.
A spokesperson for Netflix, however, tellsThe Wrap that the company is “not interested” and has no plans to pursue an acquisition.
The original report noted that Netflix hadn’t submitted a formal indication of interest in Lionsgate.
It also indicated that Netflix had bowed out of acquiring Roku – but the Netflix spokesperson said the company “did not make a bid” for Roku either.
Lionsgate has been viewed as a ripe potential M&A target since splitting from Starz – part of the reason why its stock price has seen a jump of 161% in the past year.
