Paramount and Skydance have announced that the David Corenswet-led “Mr. Irrelevant” is set to get a Christmas Day wide release following stunning results at test screenings earlier this year.

“Superman” star Corenswet plays John Tuggle, the running back who was given the ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ moniker after being the last pick of the last round of the 1983 NFL draft.

He became the first player in league history picked last in the draft to make the NFL on the team that drafted him. He died just a few years later from cancer at the age of 25, leaving behind an enduring impact on his team and teammates.

THR reports that the $35 million sports movie’s test screenings resulted in a score of 95/100 among men over 35, and snagged an incredibly rare 100/100 score among women over 35. The film landed an overall score of 92/100.

Isabel May, Michael Shannon and David Krumholtz co-star in the film which will now open amidst a crazy busy period in which “Avengers: Doomsday,” “Dune: Part Three” and a new “Jumanji” film are all set to battle at the box-office.

Jonathan Levine directs while Emmy-nominated writer and “Reacher” showrunner Nick Santora penned the script with both producing alongside Gillian Bohrer.
