Denis Villeneuve is still at work on post-production for “Dune: Part Three,” but is expected to make a jump over to the next James Bond film at some point.
It has been over a year since Amazon took creative control of the franchise, and so far, Villeneuve being set to direct remains the biggest step the project has made in moving forward to date.
Callum Turner, Louis Partridge, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jacob Elordi, and Harris Dickinson have all been rumoured as potential candidates for the role, but all seem to be only speculation for the moment.
Now, a new piece in The Telegraph has gone into where things sit with Bond right now and seems to suggest Amazon doesn’t really have much of a plan in place with the writer saying “no one knows what’s going on”.
They claim the script, from Steven Knight, is “nowhere near ready” while key creative figures remain otherwise occupied. Knight is currently busy with TV projects like “House of Guinness” and the “Peaky Blinders” sequel series.
They add that Villeneuve may be occupied with “Dune” production and promotion commitments for longer than people expect, and that a source of theirs claims even the execs at Amazon/MGM are “fed up with even thinking about 007’s future”.
One film studies professor says he is “getting the impression that they don’t know what to do with it”. It certainly raises questions as to whether the roughly targeted 2028 release will still happen.
