By An extensive new feature piece at The Wrap has gone into the alleged on-set problems of “Red One,” the Christmas-themed action film that has reportedly become an over $250 million budgeted runaway production.
According to more than a dozen insiders directly involved in the project, the film had a litany of problems with a chunk going on star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
The outlet says Johnson was chronically late, showing up as much as eight hours late to set and forcing the crew to shoot around him on some days. Additionally, Johnson has reportedly “made a habit of peeing in a water bottle to save time, upsetting crew members.”
He’s not the only issue either. They cite the inexperience of the film’s lead producer Hiram Garcia along with Amazon MGM Studios executives Julie Rapaport and Glenn Gainor in regards to the problem.
In a statement, an Amazon MGM spokesperson has denied reports of any on-set issues or delays:
“Dwayne Johnson and Seven Bucks have been incredible partners on ‘Red One’ – a film that audiences of all ages are going to love this holiday season.
Our testing has been very strong – the reaction from CinemaCon speaks for itself – and we couldn’t have made it without Dwayne’s constant work and support.
Any reporting that implies that we got to this point with him showing up seven-eight hours late to set is both ridiculous and false.”
The report also follows in the wake of Amazon MGM’s Doug Liman-directed “Road House” remake which made multiple headlines about its production issues – but was also a hit for the streamer.
Several sources for the production insist Johnson averaged no more than one hour late to the “Red One” set, even as the report cites insiders on past Johnson projects and says that tardiness has been an issue for years.
