The Family Guy supremo and creator of The Orville says that the sci-fi show is not dead. Seth MacFarlane said he remains committed to the show, no matter what may be going on with networks and contracts.

There has been no official cancellation of the show, despite almost two years passing since The Orville: New Horizons aired. Adrianne Palicki previously indicated that it is all over, and cast contracts have expired.

That said, many cast members have talked positively about returning.

During an appearance on The Mike Henry Show, MacFarlane had this to say:

“The Orville was a passion project, I say ‘was’ but I don’t really mean ‘was’ because there will be more.”

There was a rumor of a potential concluding movie being created for a streamer. Nothing has come of that.

The sci-fi show, part comedy and part loving tribute to Star Trek, was greenlit in the wake of Guardians Of The Galaxy and Deadpool, when studios began to realize that more light-hearted takes on some subjects could sell.

It embarrasses modern Star Trek by remaining better than almost all of the real Trek output for years. The first season was savaged by reviewers who didn’t seem to understand what they were seeing. By the time the second season rolled around, it scored a rare 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Orville stars J. Lee, Penny Johnson Jerald, Peter Macon, Mark Jackson, Chad L. Coleman, Jessica Szohr, and Anne Winters alongside MacFarlane and Palicki.
