“John Wick” franchise production house Thunder Road is teaming with rights holder Dragonfly Films for a major relaunch of 1999 cult favorite feature “The Boondock Saints”.

Troy Duffy, who created and helmed the original and the 2009 sequel “The Boondock Saints: All Saints Day,” will step aside from directing. He reportedly plans to write a series of books about the Saints.

Stars Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery will reprise their roles with a new director being sought for what is being dubbed a ‘universe expansion’ of the franchise about crusading Irish fraternal twins Connor and Murphy MacManus.

The pair become vigilantes after killing two members of the Russian mafia in self defense. They decide to set out on a mission to rid Boston of the criminal underworld.

Though a financial and critical failure at the time, the film’s impact and reputation has improved over the years and led to a sequel, “he Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day,” in 2009.

Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Todd Myers, Peter D. Graves, Shaun Redick, Yvette Yates Redick, Troy Duffy and Don Carmody will produce the new take.
