By Not including the cult-ish following that surrounds him, filmmaker Zack Snyder’s work has always drawn a mixed response.
His 2004 “Dawn of the Dead” remake remains arguably his most well-received work, whilst his director’s cut of “Justice League,” and films like “Man of Steel,” “300” and “Watchmen” also have their fans.
Others, however, have been outright panned. “Sucker Punch” was his most reviled film according to critical aggregate scores until the theatrical cut of the first of his sci-fi saga “Rebel Moon” beat it.
That film drew just 21% (4.2/10) on Rotten Tomatoes, and even the audience score was a relatively tepid 58%. The reviews didn’t hold back the venom either.
Speaking with Empire this week, the director has commented on the disastrous critical response to the film, saying:
“I don’t really have a rebuttal to the reviews. For whatever reason, the reaction to my movies is very polarizing, and it always has been. The movie, it doesn’t seem like there’s that much in it that would warrant such visceral responses… It’ll be interesting to see what the [critics] say about the director’s cuts. That’s a different kettle of fish.”
Snyder has long teased the longer cuts and re-iterates here again those versions will contain “all the gore and the hard R-ness and the nudity and the violence and crazy s—. They’re insane.”
The PG-13 theatrical cut of “Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver” arrives April 19th whilst the the R-rated versions of both parts is expected to hit the streamer in August.
