Disney CEO Bob Iger this week said he has big ambitions for the upcoming “Deadpool & Wolverine,” saying it is likely to be “one of the most successful Marvel movies we’ve had in a long time”.
Indeed, as the sole Marvel Studios release this year and coming off two disappointments last year with the third “Ant-Man” and “The Marvels,” Disney needs it to be a hit.
Well the hype train has begun as actor Kari Son, who plays taxi cab-driving character Dopinder in all three films in the series so far, tells Variety this week that the Shawn Levy-directed film is packed with cameos.
Sadly he won’t reveal any, and to date the only confirmed cameo that has been announced is Jennifer Garner reprising her Elektra role. More recently Vinnie Jones revealed he returned down reprising his Juggernaut role for the film. Son does say:
“This new MCU version is ultra-secretive. There are a lot of surprises… Let’s just say a lot of people traveled to London.”
Son also says he’s unsurprised Hugh Jackman is back as Wolverine in the film because his regular co-star Ryan Reynolds has been planning this for years:
“When we were making the second one, Ryan was plotting back then. I remember him spilling that at lunch one day that he had started a conversation with Hugh. I remember saying, ‘People are going to flip out!’ Then, the studio got sold to Disney, and a lot of other stuff happened. But, of course, Ryan followed through because it was dream casting.”
The film will see Deadpool recruited by the TVA (Time Variance Authority) from the “Loki” series in order to fix some major anomaly – one expected to change up the MCU.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” is due in cinemas July 26th.
