“Agents of SHIELD” and “The Book of Boba Fett” star Ming-Na Wen along with “Cruel Summer” and “Dead to Me” actress Sadie Stanley have joined the cast of the new “Karate Kid” film at Sony Pictures.

They join an expanding roster that includes “American Born Chinese” breakout Ben Wang in the title role alongside franchise returnees Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan.

Joshua Jackson is also onboard. Specifics of Wen’s role are under wraps, Stanley is said to be playing the film’s romantic interest for Wang’s character with Jackson playing her father.

The story will involve a teenager from China moving to the East Coast and beginning to study martial arts through which he finds strength and direction.

Jonathan Entwistle will serve as director from a script written by Rob Lieber. Karen Rosenfelt will produce.

Filming is expected to get underway shortly ahead of a release on December 13th this year. Ming-Na Wen will next be seen opposte Paul Giamatti and Simon Pegg in the film “Peachville”.
