“All of Us Strangers,” “Aftersun” and upcoming “Gladiator 2” star Paul Mescal is reportedly now at the ‘top of the list’ for producers to play the younger James Bond.

That’s the scuttlebutt that British tabloid The Sun is reporting this week, the tabloid claiming a pair of actors are said to be in talks to play younger and older versions of the famed spy character.

27-year-old Mescal is the one being sought to play the younger Bond, it’s not known who is up for the older Bond role. If true, it will mark the first time a Bond film has featured two actors playing the same character.

It would also mean Mescal would be the youngest person to date to take on the role in the official series, beating out George Lazenby who was 29 when he starred in his one film “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”.

The project will be the 26th in the franchise. Mescal previously said of potentially playing Bond that he’d “discuss it” if an offer came his way.

It marks the latest rumour regarding Bond casting in the past year or so, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson most recently emerging as the favourite to take on the role.
