Much of the promotion for the recent “Doctor Who” 60th Anniversary specials has come from the BBC arm of the series both broadcast and online, with Disney+ only releasing one trailer for the combined specials on its YouTube channel about a month ago.
Now however, Ncuti Gatwa’s new Doctor is here with a Christmas special set to serve as a relaunch of the series to try and bring in newcomers – all whilst using their Disney+ marketing might.
That begins with the first Disney+ trailer for the new era as they’ve released their official Christmas Special trailer which is an improvement on the BBC trailer for it the other day.
Long ago, on Christmas Eve, a baby was abandoned in the snow. Today, Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) meets The Doctor (Gatwa), goblins, stolen babies, and perhaps, the secret of her birth in this one-off ahead of the main new series early next year.
Also starring are Michelle Greenidge as Ruby’s mum Carla, Angela Wynter as Ruby’s grandmother Cherry and Anita Dobson as Mrs. Flood, and Davina McCall as herself.
The “Doctor Who” Christmas special premieres on December 25th on BBC One and BBCiPlayer in the UK and on the Disney+ service everywhere else.
