By Hulu is partnering with Charlize Theron for an exciting new show! According to Deadline, the streaming network is developing a drama series based on the WEBTOON action-romance title The Mafia Nanny. The project hails from Theron, who serves as an executive producer, and 20th Century Television.
A Lethal Operative Meets Venetian Mob Warfare
The Mafia Nanny is one of WEBTOON’s flagship hit original series. Created by writer Violet Matter alongside artists sh00, roousuu, and Drawniels, the story revolves around Davina, a lethal operative from the Elite Nanny Academy, who lives by a simple code: protect the kid, obey the boss, and never catch feelings.
Her first big gig? Safeguarding Mikey, the young son of Gabriel Angelini, a brooding Venetian mafia underboss, constantly dodging target crosshairs. Trading standard childcare for secret-agent combat tactics, Davina keeps the boy safe while navigating a minefield of mob warfare. The real hazard isn’t just the rival syndicates, though; it’s her own buried past and a dangerous habit of getting attached to both the kid and his father.
Spy x Family Vibes with Big Action and Slow-Burn Romance
After reading a few episodes of The Mafia Nanny, I’d say this series has Spy x Family vibes. It’s got big action, slow-burn romance, a dangerous female lead, and family drama that add flair and tension to the title.
Max Gill is writing the series, which would be the first English-language live-action series adaptation of a WEBTOON IP. The webcomic has amassed 420 million global views, and it’s about to get a whole lot more after this announcement.
WEBTOON’s Expanding Screen Empire
Webtoon Productions has a stacked slate on deck, including Prime Video’s Lore Olympus, the Sidelined trilogy, and Kissing is the Easy Part over at Tubi, Wattpad adaptation Chasing Red, and Prime Video’s Love Me Love Me, along with its upcoming sequel. On the webcomic front, they’re rolling out heavy hitters like Bloodhounds, My Daughter is a Zombie, Chicken Nugget, and The Remarried Empress, heading to Disney+/Hulu.
From Webcomics to Anime Success
You can already catch episodes of the Let’s Play anime on Crunchyroll, an animated adaptation of Mongie’s office romance comedy.
