“Invincible” and “The Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman appears to have let slip whom Oscar nominee Steven Yeun will be playing in the highly-anticipated “Thunderbolts” film at Marvel Studios.

The film follows an unlikely team of supervillains and antiheroes including Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah Jon-Kamen), US Agent (Wyatt Russell), Taskmaster (Olga Kerleynko), Yelena Belova/Black Widow (Florence Pugh), and The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan).

Speaking with David Finch, Kirkman indicates the “Burning,” “Minari” and “Nope” actor will be portraying the role of Sentry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe title.

In the comics, Robert Reynolds/Sentry is considered one of the most powerful characters in the MCU and has light-speed flight, immense strength and telepathic powers.

Yeun voices the teen superhero Mark Grayson/Invincible in the animated “Invincible” series which has an interesting connection to Sentry in the comics:

“My good friend Steven Yeun is playing the Sentry in a movie. I don’t think this is a spoiler or anything that will get anybody in trouble. I don’t know. Maybe. We’ll see. I don’t care. I don’t work for Marvel. What are they gonna do to me? He called me and said, ‘I just came back from a costume fitting for the Sentry. I guess I only do superheroes that wear blue & yellow.’”

Also starring are Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, and Harrison Ford Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross. “Thunderbolts” is set to be directed by Jake Schreier (“Beef”) from a screenplay written by Lee Sung Jin and earlier Eric Pearson.

Production was originally scheduled to begin in June but was stalled by the strikes. The film is still currently slated for a July 25th 2025 release.
