During the red carpet premiere of Fast X in Rome, longtime star Vin Diesel alongside Michelle Rodriguez, let split to Variety that Universal Pictures asked for the finale to be split into three films instead of the original two-parter:
“Going into making this movie, the studio asked if this could be a two-parter. And after the studio saw this one, they said, ‘Could you make “Fast X” the finale, a trilogy?’”
The news comes as a surprise after drama happened on set during the filming of Fast X when the longtime director exited the project, and Louis Leterrier was quickly hired to rewrite and direct the film. Louis Leterrier was also hired to return for Fast 11. Christina Hodson (The Flash) and Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street) were also hired to pen Fast 11. It’s unknown which of the creative team will return for Fast and Furious 12.
