Netflix has announced that a seventh season of Charlie Brooker’s darkly satirical anthology series “Black Mirror” will return to the service in 2025.
In addition, the new run will include a sequel to one of the show’s most famous episodes – the fourth season episode “USS Callister”.
The tease for that episode says: “Robert Daly is dead, but for the crew of the USS Callister, their problems are just beginning.”
Jesse Plemons starred in the original episode as Daly, a reclusive programmer who co-founded a popular MMORPG.
Daly simulates a “Star Trek”-esque space adventure within the game, using his co-workers’ DNA to create digital clones of them and leading them as the captain of the USS Callister starship.
Newly hired Nanette Cole (Cristin Milioti) ends up encouraging the other crew members to revolt against their captain.
The news of the renewal took place at the Next on Netflix event in London on Thursday.
Brooker, Jessica Rhoades and Annabel Jones serve as executive producers on the new season.
