Celebrated actress/filmmaker Sarah Polley is no longer attached to direct the live-action remake of “Bambi” at Disney Pictures according to The Wrap.
The remake of the 1942 animated classic remains in development at the studio, and the split is said to not revolve around any controversy – things simply didn’t come together.
Disney announced the live-action “Bambi” adaptation in 2020, with Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Lindsey Beer set to write.
Polley was in talks to board last year following her Oscar win for the screenplay for “Women Talking”.
The timing of Polley’s exit is interesting as it’s timed with the exit of Disney’s live-action film head Sean Bailey after 15 years – Bailey greenlighting almost all of Disney’s live-action remakes of animated classics.
Despite his exit, his live-action “Moana,” “Lilo & Stitch” and prequel “Mufasa: The Lion King” are all on the way. Former Searchlight Pictures head David Greenbaum will take over Bailey’s position.
