Austin Stowell (“Bridge of Spies,” “Whiplash,” “Catch 22”) has scored the read role of a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs in the upcoming prequel series “NCIS: Origins”.
Mark Harmon, who played Gibbs for nearly two decades in the mothership series, will serve as the show’s narrator and executive producer.
The series will commence in 1991, when Gibbs was mid-late 30s and having just retired from the Marine Corps and joined the Naval Investigative Service.
The newly minted special agent at the fledgling NIS Camp Pendleton office forges his place on a gritty, ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks.
David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal co-wrote the pilot and serve as co-showrunners and executive producers on the series. CBS plans to launch the series during the 2024-2025 broadcast season.
It marks the the latest expansion of the franchise which launched “NCIS: Sydney” last year and has a Europe-set spin-off on the way.
