Oscar-nominated actress Emily Blunt is reportedly in negotiations for the female lead opposite her “Jungle Cruise” co-star Dwayne Johnson in “Good Time” and “Uncut Gems” co-director Benny Safdie’s “The Smashing Machine” at A24.

The Insneider broke the news. Safdie wrote and will direct the feature as his first solo directorial effort. He has been developing the project with Johnson which will be a major dramatic role for the actor.

Johnson will play real-life mixed martial arts fighter Mark Kerr – a two-time UFC Heavyweight Tournament Champion. He rose through the fighting world with his no-holds-barred approach, and an addiction to painkillers ultimately led to an overdose.

Details of her role are under wraps, but it is speculated that she could be playing either Kerr’s ex-wife Dawn Staples, or current wife Franci Alberding.

Johnson and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions, Safdie’s Out for the Count banner, Eli Bush, David Koplan and A24 will produce. Johnson will next be seen alongside Chris Evans in the action comedy “Red One”.

This follows on from a report last week that A24 had a “newfound desire to go mainstream” and was looking into more commercial projects.
