Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has revealed that Max’s planned “Harry Potter” TV series is targeting a 2026 release window for its first season.
Speaking on the company’s Q4 earning call earlier today, Zaslav says: “we’ve not been shy about our excitement around Harry Potter” and adds that himself, HBO and Max content boss Casey Bloys and Warner Bros. Television chair Channing Dungey all met with author J.K. Rowling a few weeks ago in London.
Zaslav says: “We spent some real time with J.K. and her team. Both sides are just thrilled to be reigniting this franchise. Our conversations were great, and we couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead. We can’t wait to share a decade of new stories with fans around the world on Max.”
The studio is positioning the series as one of its more significant properties in the coming years with plans for the show to run a full decade – and so will be casting with those thoughts in mind.
Rowling herself previously indicated the new adaptation would “allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long-form television series.” No showrunner has officially been announced yet, even as that’s going to be key to getting the series to work.
