By Apple TV+ has announced that its “Masters of the Air” mini-series launched with more viewers in its opening weekend than any other original series first season launch on the streamer.
An exact number of viewers was not made available, but the number puts it above the debuts of numerous other high-profile original Apple TV+ titles including “Hijack,” “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters,” “Silo,” “Ted Lasso,” “Slow Horses,” “Foundation,” “Shrinking,” “The Crowded Room,” and “The Morning Show”.
The streamer is also indicating that the premiere has had a halo effect as viewership across all of Apple TV+ climbed by 65% worldwide compared to the previous seven-day period.
Since its premiere, the streamer also reportedly maintained double-digit growth across more than 100 territories. That would suggest the series has potentially drawn in a bunch of new subscribers who are subsequently checking out other shows on the service.
Adapted from Donald L. Miller’s book of the same name, the miniseries dramatizes the wartime ventures of the 100th Bomb Group, who performed dangerous aviation raids over Nazi Germany.
Austin Butler, Callum Turner, Barry Keoghan, Anthony Boyle, Nate Mann, Rafferty Law, Josiah Cross, Branden Cook and Ncuti Gatwa star. Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman executive produce.
Reviews for the series have been good, but not great, with a 73/100 on Metacritic and 87% on Rotten Tomatoes
“Masters of the Air” releases its sixth episode this week and will unfurl its ninth and final episode on March 15th.
