“Grand Theft Auto” publisher Take-Two Interactive says it’s working on a ‘significant’ cost reduction plan following mixed earnings last quarter, but “have no current plans for layoffs”, according to CEO Strauss Zelnick.
In a letter to shareholders accompanying the quarterly results, Take-Two listed projected release dates for its upcoming titles with Rockstar Games’ eagerly anticipated “Grand Theft Auto VI” currently slated for a Calendar 2025 launch.
Recent rumors have suggested a January-March 2025 release window for the next GTA title, but Strauss wouldn’t narrow down the release date beyond a general 2025 one.
It’s not the only game release date news today. Ubisoft has confirmed that its feudal Japan-set “Assassin’s Creed Codename Red” will be released within fiscal year 2025 – meaning sometime before March 2025.
That game is being made by “Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey” developer Ubisoft Quebec and boasts the same creative director. CEO Yves Guillemot also confirmed “Star Wars Outlaws” will launch before the end of the calendar year
Other news to come out of the earnings call included that sales of “Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR” were disappointing enough that the publisher has no plans to invest much in VR in the near future. He also defends the $70 price point for its live service game “Skull and Bones,” calling it a “quadruple-A game, that will deliver in the long run”.
Finally, Blackbird Interactive and Gearbox Publishing have delayed “Homeworld 3” for a fourth time – pushing it back this time to May.
