Long rumored, much discussed, now confirmed. The reboot / remake of the 1986 cult-classic fantasy movie Highlander will be John Wick director Chad Stahelski’s next project.
The green-light announcement came at the same time as Lionsgate confirming that Stahelski is to have full creative oversight of the John Wick and Highlander universes.
The tale of feuding immortals, battling across time for the ultimate prize, has been the subject of numerous reboot attempts over the years, but this time it looks like it is really happening. There was, however, no mention of Henry Cavill at the press event, even though his name has been synonymous with this version of the reboot for a few years now. Is he still involved?
Very much so, apparently. In fact. he is about to begin the training ahead of shooting.
Promoting Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle this week, Collider asked him about Highlander and this is what he said:
“The training is about to begin in earnest. It’ll be a very long training process, and I’m very excited to get into it. There’s only so much I can tell you at the moment. I want to keep everything under wraps for as long as possible.”
Shooting is expected in the back half of this year. So what of Cavill’s ultimate pet project, Warhammer 40,000? The big-budget Amazon adaption of the world-famous role-playing game is highly anticipated, and WH40K is a passion of Cavill’s:
“Warhammer is progressing very well. Big things are happening and we are very excited.”
Cavill is next seen in Argylle which is in theaters from next Friday.
