By The first season of HBO’s “The Last of Us” saw some impressive arthouse and TV directors handling its various episodes.
Filmmakers like Jasmila Zbanic (“Quo Vadis, Aida?,” “Men Don’t Cry”), Ali Abbasi (“Border,” “Holy Spider”), Liza Johnson (“Elvis & Nixon”), and British TV vet Peter Hoar tackled episodes along with showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann.
Now the directing line-up for the about to shoot second season has been announced and again includes some strong talent.
Mark Mylod, who just won the Outstanding Drama Directing Emmy win for “Succession,” is one of four new names who will helm at least one episode each.
Also onboard are “Loki” first season director Kate Herron, “Chevalier” and HBO’s “Watchmen” director Stephen Williams, and HBO’s “Perry Mason” director Nina Lopez-Corrado.
The quartet will join returnee Hoar whose first season third episode “Long, Long Time” was the best received of the first season.
Mazin and Druckmann are also expected to take on directing duties again too. Seven directors in total which is on par with the first season which saw two of its directors tackling two episodes each.
It is unclear whether any of the seven helmers will direct multiple episodes this time around as the episode count hasn’t been revealed.
Production on the second season is slated to begin next month in Vancouver.
