Two months ago came a swirl of headlines around actress Melissa Barrera who was fired from “Scream VII” over social media remarks she made regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Barrera has effectively served as the lead character in the last two films which have been big hits for production company Spyglass and so a seventh was understandably in the works.
In the wake of her departure, her co-star Jenna Ortega and the film’s director Christopher Landon quickly exited the project as well, leaving the film in a weird state of limbo.
Today, the actress is at Sundance to promote her new work in Caroline Lindy’s “Your Monster” and tells Deadline she looks back on the film series fondly:
“I’m just so grateful on what I got to infuse in the franchise, and that’s something I’ll be proud of forever.”
Last weekend she reunited with her co-stars at the MPTF‘s 17th Annual Evening Before Gala – taking a photo with Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Liana Liberato, Tony Revolori, Jack Quaid, and Skeet Ulrich.
She says the friendships formed from their work together wil last:
“If we’re ever in the vicinity of each other, we always find each other and that’s what happened at that event. When we find each other, we just want to spend the night with each other, and nothing is ever going to change that.”
Barrera is not short on work as she had the upcoming Radio Silence horror film “Abigail” on the way along with “The Collaboration”.
