A new featurette has been released for Paramount Pictures’ film adaptation of author Tomi Adeyemi’s celebrated 2018 novel “Children of Blood and Bone”.

The featurette comes ahead of the film launching its first official trailer tomorrow. It also follows in the wake of recent comments by Adeyemi in which she unexpectedly and publicly announced she’s distancing herself from the upcoming film adaptation.

The story follows Zelie (Thuso Mbedu), a young woman living in a fantasy African kingdom who embarks on a quest to reclaim the magic that the ruthless King Saran (Chiwetel Ejiofor) violently stole from her people.

She and her older brother Tzain (Tosin Cole) as they form an alliance with the king’s daughter, Princess Amari (Stenberg), and son, Prince Inan (Damson Idris), to resist his brutal rule.

Also starring are Viola Davis as Mama Agba, Cynthia Erivo as Admiral Kaea, Idris Elba as Lekan, Lashana Lynch as Jumoke, Diaana Babnicova as Folake and Regina King as Queen Nehanda.

Adeyemi co-wrote and executive produced the adaptation of the action fantasy work, which has been directed by filmmaker Gina Prince-Bythewood. The film is set to release in cinemas on January 15th 2027.
