By Every filmmaker seems to have a stable of actors they like working with, and that very much includes Mike Flanagan.
Across his limited series and films from “Gerald’s Game” and “The Haunting of Hill House,” to “Doctor Sleep,” “The Haunting of Bly Manor” and “Midnight Mass,” he’s built up a ‘family’ of regulars including the likes of Bruce Greenwood, Rahul Kohli, Henry Thomas, Zach Gilford, T’Nia Miller, Kate Siegel, Annabeth Gish, Samantha Sloyan and more.
But if there’s one person both famous enough and immediately identifiable enough to be considered Flanagan’s lucky charm, it’s arguably the one and only Carla Gugino. Her not being in any major new Flanagan project seems almost unfathomable at this point.
During a recent interview with the actress on the Bingeworthy podcast, where she discussed her work on Flanagan’s final Netflix series “The Fall of the House of Usher,” she was asked the obvious question – will she be onboard Flanagan’s long-gestating adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Dark Tower”? Turns out there has been some early talk:
“There has been a conversation about ‘The Dark Tower,’ but I don’t have any intel I could share other than that. I do hope that it all comes together.
I know that’s something he’s incredibly passionate about. I mean, I do think he is great, just as a Stephen King interpreter. And yet, he also has such a strong voice of his own that somehow is beautiful, you know?
‘Gerald’s Game’ is so true to the book, even to the point where the end, which I think is actually imperative, was a part of it that people really responded to or didn’t. And Mike was so clear about, ‘Well, that’s that’s what it is, though.’ And yet, I thought he did it so seamlessly.”
Gugino keeps working and will appear in Zelda Williams’ “Lisa Frankenstein” and the animated film “Orion and the Dark” both releasing soon.
