StudioCanal UK has released the official trailer for “Mother’s Instinct,” an English-language remake of Belgian filmmaker Olivier Masset-Depasse’s 2018 psychological thriller “Duelles”.
Based on Barbara Abel’s novel “Derriere la Haine,” Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway will play best friends and neighbors Alice and Céline in the 1960s.
Both women live an idyllic traditional lifestyle with manicured lawns, successful husbands and sons of the same age.
Their perfect harmony is suddenly shattered by a tragic accident. Familial bonds are gradually undermined by guilt and paranoia and a gripping battle of wills develops, revealing the darker side of maternal love.
Masset-Depasse was originally slated to return as director, but instead the film will mark the directorial debut of acclaimed cinematographer Benoit Delhomme.
Josh Charles and Anders Danielsen Lie co-star. Sarah Conradt is adapting the script whilst Chastain is producing with Kelly Carmichael, Jacques-Henri Bronckart and Paul Nelson.
The film does not yet have a U.S. release date.
